Fillings

Fillings repair decayed teeth, restoring strength and a natural look.

Fillings Explained

What Are They?

Fillings are specially designed materials used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay. They rebuild the tooth’s shape and structure, allowing it to function properly and look natural again.

What Will My Dentist Do?

Your dentist will carefully remove any decayed or damaged part of the tooth, thoroughly clean the area, and then place a filling material, often tooth-coloured, to seal and restore the tooth. The result is a strong, smooth surface that blends in with the rest of your smile.

What Are the Benefits?

Fillings protect the tooth from further decay, stop discomfort caused by cavities, and restore both strength and appearance. They help you chew comfortably and keep your teeth healthy for the long term.

Types of Fillings

There are several types of dental fillings, each with its own benefits depending on the tooth’s location, the extent of the damage, and your personal preferences.

Composite (White) Fillings

Made from a tooth-coloured resin, composite fillings blend in naturally with your teeth, making them ideal for visible areas like front teeth. They bond well to the tooth structure and are often used in minimally invasive treatments.

Amalgam (Silver) Fillings

These are made from a mix of metals including silver, tin, copper, and mercury. Amalgam fillings are very durable and have been used for decades, particularly in back teeth where strength is essential. However, they are more noticeable and less commonly used in modern cosmetic dentistry.
